Even in the dead of winter, Compost happens.
Few things could have made me more excited today.

Dangers of Fracking - infographic website →
Check this out. Right now.  hapiplanet: This infographic website is a great visual display about how the fracking process works. Among countless other terrible consequences associated,  There have been over 1,000 documented cases of water contamination next to areas of gas drilling as well as cases of sensory, respiratory, and neurological damage due to ingested contaminated water. If you...

Organic Authority.com: 7 Reasons Kale Is the New... →
Kale is being delivered in tomorrow’s Door to Door Organics. I am sitting here, dreaming of what it will be like to eat some Kale again.  This summer I’m putting up a greenhouse and several solar boxes for the winter crop, and I’m growing as much Kale as possible.  And, yes, Kale is capitalized.

The bad food news of 2011 | Grist →
Sure, this is a rather bleak outlook. But, in a sense, doesn’t this also work as a list of things to work on fixing?

Killing Environmentalism to Save It: Two Greens... →
I consider myself a bit of an “alarmist” when it comes to the future of humanity. However, when I approach other people about their habits, I try to be a little more casual and ease them into making better choices, rather than try to convince them that their solitary actions are killing everything! It has been, more or less, the goal of Not Quite Hippie form the start. I had to...

USDA clears first drought-tolerant biotech corn |... →
This pisses me off, a lot.  The question should not be “What can we do to grow crops in a drought” but “What are we doing that causes a drought?”  I’m sure someone will get paid great sums of money for this and will use that money to build his personal golf course.

Yes, this can all be saved
A future of sustainable energy is 100% possible. And it is possible RIGHT NOW. Anyone who says otherwise is either being paid or making profit from the old economy.  I’m tired of waiting. I’m tired of elected officials dragging feet and voters being run around the gambit before surrendering to an evening of America’s latest talent show garbage.

We can live without banks.  We can’t necessarily live without a healthy environment.

I keep getting asked, so I'll throw it out there:
Is it better to eat local? Or eat organic? They aren’t always the same.  Is it more important to eat something that is grown sustainably, but shipped halfway across the country? Or better to eat from where you live, even if it’s not sustainably grown?

The 'Age of Thirst' in the American West - Opinion... →
“The spring and summer run-off from those snowpacks brought enormous relief. It renewed what we in the Southwest like to call the “Hydro-Illogic” cycle: when drought comes, everybody wrings their hands and promises to institute needed reform, if only it would rain a little. Then the drought breaks or eases and we all return to business as usual, until the cycle comes around to...
